Ionia, Michigan | Age 75
William Roy Steere, age 75, of Ionia, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Wednesday, October 30, 2013. "My worth to God in public is what I am in private." Bill was a very devout Christian and a long-time member of Calvary Church, serving many years as an usher. He was deeply involved in the community, sharing his faith by ministering at Mel Trotter Ministries and leading Bible studies with Alzheimer's patients in the area nursing homes. A very energetic person, Bill was still working full time in sales as a dairy nutritionist for J B S United, serving customers in the West Michigan area. If you knew or had met Bill, he was one of the kindest people you could know, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, friend and mentor. His passing is a deep loss for the family and to the community as a whole.
He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Ardeth (Porter); his sons, Daniel (Julie) Steere and Jeffrey (Julie) Steere; his beloved grandchildren and great grandchildren, Elizabeth (Justin) Turner, Adam (Melissa) Steere - Bentley Steere, Emily (Dustin) Nyenhuis, Mitchell Steere - Kailyn Steere and Morgan Balcer, Robert (Ashley) Steere - Ella Grace Steere, Michelle (Eric) Rodanhisler - Tyler Meyer, Kara and Bradlee Rodanhisler, Jack Steere, Donald (Sena) Pummill, Steven Pummill; his sister Arlene (Arthur) Wood; his brother Gary (Tammy) Steere; brother-in-law David (Margie) Porter, and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Calvary Church, 707 East Beltline Ave., N.E., Grand Rapids, with Pastor Tom Olsson officiating. The family will receive relatives and friends Monday 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Cook Memorial Chapel, 4235 Prairie St. SW (East building) and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday. In lieu of flowers, the family would like to suggest that memorial contributions be directed to a couple of the charities Bill supported: Calvary Church Missions and Mel Trotter Ministries. The family welcomes memories and messages in their guest book online at www.cookcares.com.
